The history of Røverborgen, or the "Enchanted Fortress on the Cliffs," has its roots in a local tourist association in Gudhjem that aimed to add even more drama and exotic flair to the natural surroundings. This association was established in 1907 with one of its main goals being to make the local wilderness accessible to tourists. As a result, bathing spots were created, new paths were cleared through the forest, and even a bridge was built over the Ravneskåret abyss, leading straight to Røverborgen.
The name Røverborgen, as the story goes, was chosen by members of this society to bring an air of mystery and fascination to the place, attracting tourists from different corners of the world. But that's not the end of this tale.
In 1917, the renowned Nordisk Film studio produced a movie titled "The Wedding of the Sicilian Bandit," in which Røverborgen played a mysterious and central role. It was in this film that it accompanied us as a scene, adding even more fame to this location. Today, the bridge that once led to Røverborgen has disappeared, but Røverborgen itself still stands, jutting out from the cliffs as a remarkable and exhilarating rock formation.

Although the bridge that once crossed the boundary between worlds is no more, Røverborgen continues to stand atop the cliffs, emerging like an exquisitely enchanted castle, ready to welcome those who dare to visit.
