1) Pick your area: Bornholm has several great zones. Jons Kapel and Helligdomsklipperne are popular for their formations and views. The Hammershus area blends history and adventure.
2) Safety first: bring a helmet, harness, ropes and appropriate shoes. Check the forecast and local conditions (especially on sea cliffs) and match objectives to your team’s skills.
3) Get professional support: if you’re new to climbing or unfamiliar with the island, consider a guide/instructor or join an organised climbing day.
4) Grades and routes: you’ll find lines across a range of difficulties. The UIAA system is commonly used. Choose goals realistically – Bornholm can be more demanding than it looks.
5) What to pack: besides climbing gear, bring water, snacks, sun protection (in summer), an area map and a first-aid kit.
6) Respect nature: follow climbing ethics, leave no trace and care for the environment – Bornholm is special because of its landscape.
