Bornholm invites people with disabilities

A wheelchair holiday on Bornholm? No problem. Bornholm has fantastic nature, first-class restaurants, high-quality food production, exciting handicraft displays and much more.
We want to inspire people with disabilities, their families and companions to visit Bornholm. Places, where people with disabilities can stay, are found all over the island, from the southern beaches of Bornholm to the rocky north.
Some beaches, such as the beach in Balka, have wooden footpaths right up to the water, so you can easily reach the sea by pram or wheelchair.

What attractions cannot be visited in a wheelchair

What attractions cannot be visited in a wheelchair

Unfortunately, there are many attractions in Bornholm that we will not visit in a wheelchair.

Bornholms Museum
No wheelchair access. Already at the footpath, there are steep stone stairs and there is no elevator between the floors of the building.

Dueodde
Dueodde Beach is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. A few years ago, a footbridge was created through the dunes, which is no longer suitable for wheelchair users. The footbridge stops 50 meters from the beach. There is no platform at the end where you can turn around or park several wheelchairs without interfering with the rest of the traffic. The sand is not removed, so in several places, along the way, the footbridge disappeared into the sand between the dunes.

Lovely nature

In Bornholm's nature, we can see and reach many beautiful and varied landscapes and reachable in a wheelchair. Often in forests and plantations, there are paths that can be used as you walk under the beautiful green canopy of trees. These green oases can be great on hot days when you need to cool off. There is always something to see and experience in forests and plantations, regardless of the season.

On the beach, you can enjoy the sea view and the beautiful white sand. Many beaches have good conditions for disabled people in the form of parking lots, disabled toilets and beach access. Enjoy the sea breeze and beautiful nature in any season. The beautiful sea is breathtaking and the whole family can have great experiences here. You can swim, build beautiful sandcastles and enjoy collecting shells and beautiful stones by the coast. It is also likely to find amber in the winter months after a storm or strong winds. Amber is yellow or orange and knows that it is lighter than stone and has a more hollow sound when you tap it lightly.

Almindingen forest
Wheelchair users and prams can travel along the forest paths, but please note that the western part of Almindingen is very hilly.
Observation tower Bastemose birds are equipped with a ramp that allows access to the second floor of the tower.
Wheelchair access
Hareløkkerne - there are 2 shelters here. One of them is disabled-friendly, it can be accessed in a wheelchair.
Each shelter has space for approx. 6 adults.
The toilet is located on the bike path.

Brændesgaardshaven
The place has a small animal farm, water park, picnic areas etc. It is definitely a place that might be interesting for the whole family.
