cycle tour around Bornholm

Cycling tour around the Bornholm coast

One example of a cycling tour is a route around the coast of Bornholm.

Day 1: Arrival in Rønne 1st stage - Rønne - Vang, approx. 22 km
We start our tour with a delicious coffee in one of the restaurants in Rønne, the largest town on Bornholm, and get acquainted with the tour guide and itinerary. This route is quite demanding, as we have to reckon with quite a lot of hills.
On the way to Vang you can see the Safirsø, Pyritsø and Smaragdsø lakes, the beautiful sandy beaches, Kullatipan, the village of Hasle and one of Bornholm's famous smokehouses and smokehouse museum, the charming fishing villages of Helligpeder and Teglkas. Jons Kapel, the Vang quarry and the watermill in Vang are of course must-sees.
Day 2: Vang stage II - Vang - Allinge, approx. 15 km
The tour takes you to the north of Bornholm, where on the way we can see such attractions as : Pissebaek waterfall, Slotslyngen area with a beautiful view of Hammershus castle ruins. One of the rift valleys on Bornholm, Ravnedal, or the lovely Ankermyr moor in autumn. Of course, you won't want to miss the oldest medieval ruins of Hammershus Castle, along with other famous attractions such as the lion and camel head rock formation, caves, Hammerhavn harbour, the colourful Lake Opalsø and the island's largest lake Hammersø.
In the tourist town of Allinge we can also see the Madsebakke rock carvings and the modern architecture of Domen. End the tour with dinner at one of Allinge's two smokehouses or restaurants, or in the countryside, e.g. on the Hammeren plateau.
Day 3: North of Bornholm - stage IV - Hammeren plateau
A day of break, visiting Hammeren plateau, Solomon's chapel, two lighthouses, one of which is Hammer Ode the northernmost point of the island, Moseløkken quarry or just relaxing on a sandy beach and enjoying the sun and cool seawater.

Day 4: stage V - Allinge - Svaneke, approx. 30 km
Cycle along the rocky coast of the north to the south of Bornholm. On the way there are attractions such as : Æggehønen, Sandkas with a sandy beach, Tejn with a fishing port or the highest waterfall and rift valley in Denmark - Døndalen. Another attraction we pass is the Bornholms Kunstmuseum, along which the route to the Helligdomsklipperne rock formations leads. Slowly we approach Gudhjem, where it is worth stopping at Bokul Hill for an amazing view.
We finish this stage in Gudhjem, which has a lovely southern flair with lots of little shops selling Bornholm delicacies/sweets and restaurants, as well as a fantastic harbour setting. In Gudhjem there are two museums, a historic church on a hill and a windmill, which are well worth a visit. While in Gudhjem, we recommend staying one day to take the ferry to the island of Christiansø.
The route continues along the coast with beautiful views. On the way you can visit Melstedgård: a living open-air museum and agricultural museum, opposite which is the oldest windmill on Bornholm. Stavehøl (Waterfall at Kobbeå), the tourist attraction Randkløve Skår, Heralda harbour, the picturesque place Ypnasted or one of Bornholm's secrets Louisenlund. The historical monument Helligkvinden is also worth a visit. We finish the tour in Svaneke, the most beautiful village on Bornholm and in Denmark, with its famous smokehouse and numerous shops of local craftsmen.
Day 5: VI stage - Svaneke - Dueodde, about 30 km
We continue along the coast passing the lighthouse and Hullehavn bathing resort on the way. Further, on the route in Aarsdale we pass the most famous mill on the island and we go to Paradisbakkerne - Paradise Hills. We also visit the open-air museum Malkværn and drive to Nexø, where we visit the railway museum, harbour and butterfly park. On the way from Nexø, there is a bird-watching point and the beautiful sandy beach of Balka. We can spend part of this day on this lovely beach before heading to Dueodde, a village known for having the most beautiful beach in northern Europe, extensive high dunes and one of the most interesting viewpoints on Bornholm - the lighthouse.
Day 6: Stage 7 - Dueodde - Ronne, approximately 32 km
The final stage leads you towards the ferry in Rønne, during which you can ride along the southwest coast with a stop at Slusegård, where you will find a watermill and archaeological sites. Here longitude and latitude meet and there is Café Slusegaard. Further on we visit the church of Sct. Peders church and a little further on the Lille Gadegård vineyard. Further on we stop at Baptiststenen, a viewing point, and continue to Arnager harbour, which has the longest wooden bridge in Denmark. We finish our tour in Rønne, visiting local museums and attractions.
