Balka is a typical small coastal town on Bornholm, with only a few hundred permanent residents.
There are many holiday cottages and several beach hotels around Balka, and Balka itself is famous for its beautiful sandy beach.
The white sand of Balka beach is on a par with Dueodde. The beach is sheltered from the west wind and the water is calm, warm and shallow. Balka beach is of course a popular swimming area for families with children.
Balka is only 3 km from Nexø, so there are good shopping opportunities for all holidaymakers within walking distance.
Balka beach is the most child-friendly beach on Bornholm and is considered one of the best beaches in Denmark. The kilometre-long beach has fine white sand and the most beautiful turquoise blue water.
The beach is sheltered from the west wind, so the water is calm and only gives a few soft waves. Balka is known for its shallow water, where you have to go far down to swim, which makes swimming and playing safer for children. In high season, there are lifeguards on the beach to look after the bathing guests. Balka beach offers many opportunities for entertainment for the whole family throughout the summer. You can rent kayaks or windsurfing equipment.
There is a kiosk and good parking facilities at the beach, as well as mini-golf and toilets.
Balka beach is accessible for the disabled. A good access road and wooden ramp leads from the car park on Frederiksvej.
Following the path along the beach almost 2 kilometres south, you will find the fishing village of Snogebæk, which has several shops, restaurants and cafes. Here you will also find antiques, a glass factory and smokehouses. This small fishing village offers many delicacies, such as Kjærstrup Chokolade or Boisen ice cream. In addition, every year during week 30 we can attend the biggest harbour party on Bornholm in Snogebæk. Here you can experience a nice summer atmosphere with lots of entertainment and music.
