For many Bornholm is the most beautiful Danish holiday island. Bornholm is different from the rest of Denmark, mainly due to the rocky coast, which is located in the northern part of the island.
The island offers unique attractions for adults and children. Here we can visit the medieval ruins of Hammershus Castle, the island of Christiansø, rotunda churches and much more.
Bornholm offers you a variety of cosy hotels and guesthouses for a pleasant holiday on the sunny island. Bornholm offers a wide range of attractive accommodation. You can choose between large, modern hotels and historical boutique hotels with a view of the Baltic Sea, or you can stay in one of the small and quaint villages on Bornholm.
On Bornholm you will also find many cosy guesthouses, some of which are open all year round. Whether you choose a hotel or a guesthouse, you will feel comfortable on your Bornholm holiday.
Bornholm has an excellent range of holiday accommodation, especially for families with children. There are many holiday cottages and campsites of various categories with over 17,000 places to stay. Quiet towns and their surroundings offer numerous holiday homes, hostels and campsites. As in the rest of Denmark, the most popular way to spend a holiday here is to rent a holiday home. This allows you the freedom to plan your free time during your holiday. Rooms or holiday homes for rent are marked Værelse or in German Zimmer Frei.
If you plan a holiday in high season (mid-June to mid-August), you must remember to book in advance. Most hotels, pensions, cottages, etc. are open from the beginning of May until the end of September, some a month earlier and some a month later. Almost all have a discount system, with discounts for long weekends, week-long stays, package holidays such as cycling holidays, etc.
The island of Bornholm offers a large and varied range of accommodation, and therefore different prices. Apart from hotels, holiday cottages and campsites, you can also find cheap accommodation on Bornholm.
The cheapest accommodation is on Bornholm farms. The cheapest accommodation is on farms where you can stay on Bornholm's farmers' land and it costs around DKK a night, but you don't expect anything luxurious for such a low price. The farmer usually provides a latrine and a cold water tap. Some better-equipped farms - offer a place to prepare a meal or a bicycle locker. For an additional charge, we can use a shower in the host's house or in a place designated for that purpose. Some hosts offer to buy fresh fruit, vegetables or eggs, or even milk straight from the cow.
Farms are marked by the word Lejrplads or Telt with a symbol of a tent.
Primitive wooden shelters and primitive campsites are very simple accommodation. The wooden shelters are for 5-8 people and are situated in the most interesting parts of the island, usually with direct access to the beach.
Rules for the use of shelters and primitive campsites:
- you may only use for one night
- You must clean up after yourself, take away all the rubbish.
- you may light a campfire only in places designated for this purpose.
Shelters and primitive campsites usually do not have toilets or access to running water (but this is not a rule). The rule is "first come, first served".
It is also worth remembering that in Denmark, including Bornholm, there is a complete ban on wild camping. If you break this rule you may be fined very high amounts.
