Hammerknuden: A Spectacular Hiking Trail on Bornholm

The trail stretches for almost 9 km and is an out-and-back route, meaning that the total distance will be covered twice if you start and end at the same place. The best starting point is the parking area at Sandvig Beach, where there is ample parking.

After leaving the parking lot, follow the blue dots on the wide asphalt path leading to the Hammerodde Fyr lighthouse, built in 1895. From this point, the trail becomes more challenging as it transitions to a narrow, hilly, and rocky path along the coast.

During the hike, you'll have the opportunity to see the ruins of the over 700-year-old Chapel of Solomon and enjoy views of the sea and Hammerhavn. Along the way, the trail veers away from the coast and heads uphill to a rocky hill above Opalsøen, as well as through wooded areas where the path frequently winds. The trail concludes along the shores of Hammersø, from where you can return to Sandvig.

The difficulty of the trail is rated as relatively high due to the uneven and rocky terrain. It is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. The path consists of varied surfaces such as asphalt, nature trails, rocks, and gravel. Facilities such as toilets are available at the parking lot at Sandvig Beach. Although the trail does not directly pass through Hammerhavn, consider taking a short 200-meter detour to this charming little port to experience its local ambiance.
